Haiti - Elections :

Pierre Louis Opont, the director general of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), called rumors of information suggesting that because of the cholera epidemic in the country, elections envisaged in 17 days could be postponed.

However, without noting the contradiction of his statements, he asserts that "it is too early to talk of a postponement of elections because of cholera" A revealing statement, which implicitly suggests that scenarios of postponement of elections, not rumors, have been examined.

The Director General stressed that the CEP would consider any situation that may require a postponement of these elctions, because there still may be imponderable, citing as examples: a cyclone before the elections or a health disaster... "In the case of the cholera, these are the competent authorities, of which the ministry for the public health which will have to decide" he says, indicating that the CEP will then make an analysis of this decision to be able to act consequently...

In other words, nothing is excluded... and rumors are not unfounded.

Mr. Opont, said that currently, all operations are continuing for the organization of the elections schedule, joining the discourse of Edmond Mulet of MINUSTAH, which continues to assert that on the plan "technical, logistical, security, budget, everything is in place" and there are no objective reason not to have elections on November 28. Remarks that the Prime Minister Jean Max Bellerive, took to his credit, appearing in good...

A question to be posed is to know, if this eventual decision, would fall under the Department of Health and Haitian authorities, or from the international community, to then be taken over by Haitian authorities, as their own decisions ? In fact, what is the scope of the Haitian government, as we know that 66% of the next state budget will come from abroad?
