Haiti - Politic : The CARICOM calls for urgent resolution of the political crisis

In a statement the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has called on all the stakeholders in Haiti’s electoral process to do their utmost to resolve the current political crisis.

"The Caribbean Community condemns the acts of violence which have, in recent days, marred the ongoing electoral process in Haiti https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16398-haiti-flash-situation-of-violence-and-anarchy.html . These events have contributed to the decision to postpone the second round of the Presidential elections and the elections for the remaining members of the legislature https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16394-haiti-flash-elections-of-january-24-are-canceled-update-7h10-pm.html

In the circumstances, the Community calls on all the stakeholders, and in particular the major political actors, to do their utmost to resolve, as a matter of urgency, the current political crisis in a calm and peaceful atmosphere by facilitating the negotiations being conducted.

The Caribbean Community looks forward to the continuation of the electoral process and to an improved management and conduct of the polling process. It is imperative that voting take place in a secure and peaceful environment that will encourage citizens to carry out their civic duty and exercise their right in large numbers."
