Haiti - Culture : Haitian Art Exhibition at the residence of US Ambassador

Thursday evening was held at the residence of the Ambassador of the United States Peter F. Mulrean and Corinne Bèque, to Bourdon, the opening of the exhibition "Paintings and Sculptures of Haiti exposed to the Residence" in the presence of several of the artists, gallery owners and art collectors, several other representatives from the art world, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and government.

Through this exhibition Ambassador Mulrean and his wife continue the tradition of using their residence as a platform to exhibit works of Haitian art.

23 paintings, 2 sculptures and 2 iron-cut works from the Galerie Georges Nader, Nader Art Museum and Gallery Marassa will be on permanent display and can be admired by visitors invited to the residence of the Ambassador throughout their mandate in Haiti.

It was Mr. Nader who lent most works, and also helped to conceptualize the entire exhibition with Ms. Michèle Frisch and Pascale Monnin, whose one of the creations (Chapelet champêtre, 2010-2016) is suspended to the tree named "Mimi blanc" in Haiti or Barringtonia asiatica in the garden of the residence. This work includes a string of 7 reinforced concrete heads studded with mirrors reflecting the complex and fragmented beauty of human nature.

Besides Pascale Monnin, the works of the following artists are exhibited : Murat Brierre, Edgard Brierre, Jacques Gabriel, Luce Turnier, Lucien Price, Max Pinchinat, Bernard Séjourné, Tiga, Stivenson Magloire, Ronald Mevs, Sébastien Jean, Joseph Eddy Pierre, Pascal Smarth, Frankétienne, Philippe Dodard, David Boyer, Céleur Jean-Hérard and André Eugène.

In his remarks for the occasion, Ambassador Mulrean said, "We have decided to focus this exhibition on the abstraction in Haitian art, from the pioneers of the era of the Art Center to contemporary artists. Of course, this small selection can not cover in all stages nor all artists. But we hope to be able to show our appreciation for the diversity of the art of this beautiful country [...]"
