Haiti - Elections : Mirlande Manigat target of Célestin and Martelly

The candidate Mirlande Manigat (Rassemblement des Démocrates Nationaux Progressistes - RDNP) is not immune to intimidation and electoral violence. Last Sunday, a dozen armed men, brandishing pictures of Jude Celéstin, threw tear gas at a meeting of the candidate.

Jean-Robert Bosse (Alternative banner), parliamentary candidate, denounced these acts, which come from his rival, the outgoing deputy Fritz Gerald Bourjolly of platform INITE. Mr. Bossé supports that police officers were among these individuals, which according to him, not surprising because Bourjolly, would have the majority of police officers from the city to its service, which would explain the slow response of police to restore order.

Ms. Manigat went thereafter visited Les Cayes where its meeting was, this time disturbed by motorcyclists, brandishing according to witnesses, posters of Michael Martelly (Repon Peyizan). They have crossed the crowd, creating panic.

Supporters of Mirlande Manigat also pass to the action. On Monday, clashes erupted in the North-West where an electoral seat was ransacked by angry individuals claiming to be from RDNP. The appointment of members of polling stations that are exclusively members of party INITE, would be the cause of this outbreak of violence. The protesters demanded the integration of local members of RDNP in the composition of polling stations and electoral supervision.

At 6 days of voting this week looks at high risk for the candidates and the population.
