Haiti - FLASH : Attempt attack against Michel Martelly, 1 died some casualties (UPDATE 4:45pm)

An attempted attack took place Friday evening in the town of Les Cayes in southern Haiti, against the presidential candidate Michel Martelly who held her closing campaign rally in front of more than 200,000 people (figure provided by the candidate who wished to clarify that this figure was not exaggerated).

"Michel Martelly was in the street with his supporters," said Karine Beauvoir, spokesman of the candidate. "There was an ambush. They [individuals] have fired on the crowd with automatic weapons" At least one person was killed and several others injured said the spokesman.

Michel Martelly and his staff campaign, are unscathed.

Jean François Vézina, spokesman for the UN police in Haiti, today confirmed the attack against Martelly, unable to specify the number of victims, "the UN police was not involved in the incident" he said.

UPDATE 3:30pm Haiti : Rony Cineac, Police Chief of Les Cayes, said that when the gunmen opened fire on the gathering of the candidate, and contrary to the remarks of the the candidate's spokesman [probably in shock], there are officially no fatalities or wounded by bullets.
