Haiti - Elections : Position of Haiti Private Sector Economic Forum

In a note, the Haiti Private Sector Economic Forum, an organization gathering the main employers' associations in the country and major national companies said take note of the recommendations formulated by the Independent Commission of Electoral Evaluation and Verification (CIEVE), constituted to shed light on the 2015 elections https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-17594-haiti-flash-the-commission-report-all-details.html

"[...] The Forum salutes the courage and patriotism of the 5 members of the CIEVE in the conduct of this delicate exercise for the future of the electoral process and the restoration of democratic order in the country and urges the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) to which returns the ultimate responsibility for achieving the election, to pronounce as soon as possible on the recommendations of the Commission.

The Economic Forum invites all actors to take the path of constructive dialogue and consultation to ensure stability and facilitate the organization of credible, honest and democratic elections for the installation of authorities legitimate in power, a prerequisite for social harmony and wealth creation through an enabling environment for productive investment generating sustainable jobs for the benefit of the population.

The Forum believes that the report by the CIEVE, demonstrates the need to reform the Haitian electoral system that has served its time, it is high time that the CEP is innovating by applying, for example electronic voting, which has been proven at the level of many countries.

The Forum is ready to support all efforts of the CEP for the repatriation of the electoral process and believes it is essential that the active forces coalesce to create a new national reliable electoral system, capable of ensuring respect of the expression of the popular vote."
