Haïti - Social : Members of the Haitian Philatelic Society rewarded

Three members of the Haiti Philatelic Society (HPS) taking part in the competitive exhibit organized by World Stamp Show-NY 2016, the once-in-ten year international philatelic exhibition hosted in the United States, received awards today for their philatelic exhibits on Haiti.

"I am extremely proud to see that the hard work of our members was recognized by the jury of World Stamp Show-NY 2016," said Ubaldo Del Toro, HPS President. "For some of them, this represents many years of efforts and research to document specific areas of Haitian philately."

HPS member Guy Dutau (France) received a gold medal for his exhibit on Haiti's first issues (1881-1887). These issues rank as classics comparable to the early emissions of other nations. Members Barbara Levine (Israel), with an exhibit on the airmail development of Haiti through 1948, and Peter C. Jeannopoulos (USA), with an exhibit on Haiti's 1902 Provisional Issue, and a second one on Haiti's 50c Nord Alexis Stamp of 1904, also received Vermeil medals.

"Today's awards are another great example of how Haiti can be an excellent country upon which someone can focus his philatelic efforts," said Mr. Del Toro, adding "Haiti's history is rich and fascinating and it is clearly exemplified by its philately."
