Haiti - Justice : The CARLI outraged and revolted of actions of Me Danton Léger

In a note dated June 5, the Lawyers Committee for the Respect of Individual Liberties (CARLI), "notes with indignation and revolt that Me Danton Léger, Government Commissioner at the Court of First Instance, triggered a wave of political persecution against certain personalities [...] by takingclumsy departure ban measures against of former Prime Ministers, Ministers and other senior officials of government [...] Echoing unfounded accusations, fanciful and false regardless of the principle of the presumption of innocence enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 11 stipulating 'Everyone charged with a penal offence has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defense.'"

While recognizing the importance of the fight against corruption in the framework of respect for human rights and building a the Rule of Law and a democratic society CARLI "recommends to the institutions concerned (Parliament, the Superior Court of Auditors and Administrative litigation, Central Unit of Financial Information, Unit for Combating Corruption) charged to investigate the management of funds of great servants of the State to fully assume their responsibilities to respond independently to the expectations of anyone wishing to obtain a clearance certificate of their management after objective and impartial analysis of the submitted dossiers."
