Haiti - FLASH : Creation of a 3rd political bloc in the Senate

Since Thursday, the Senate now has a third political group "Parliamentary Alliance for Institutional Strengthening and Stability" (APRIS).

The new Group, that is defined as moderate centrist, is composed of senators : Dieupie Chérubin, Francenet Dénius, Jean Renel Sénatus and Jean Marie Salomon and wants to be the bridge between the majority and minority whose positions are often extreme. Moreover they intend to do everything to facilitate the functioning of the Senate that is unable because of differences to hold sessions in the Assembly.

The creation of this new political bloc, will significantly change the balance of power in the upper house. Indeed Senators : Sénatus, Cherubin and Salomon were allies to the G8 (minority block) which reduces to 5, while the Senator Dénius was allied to the majority group which is now reduced to 11 members.

In summary, we have a G5 (former G8) a new block G4 and the G11 (former G12)

To 4 days of expiry of the term of President a.i. Privert, ATRIS will hold the balance of votes and will play a role, probably decisive in the decision to extend or not the provisional term of the Head of State.
