Haiti - Politic : D-4, meetings marathon for Privert

To 4 days of the expiration of the term of 120 days of the President a.i. Jocelerme Privert under the terms of the agreement of 5 February, the Head of State has undertaken since Monday, a true marathon of meetings with among other representatives of the private business sector, civil society and political party leaders.

Privert Thursday met with the members of offices of both Houses of Parliament around the current conjuncture in order to find the best solution to the political crisis.

Shortly before the meeting, Senator Cantave, of the minority group close to former President Martelly, indicated that Vice President Larèche which acts as Acting President in the Senate may not engage in any way the Senate during this meeting, following a signed note sent to the VP of the Senate yesterday and signed by 10 senators : Carl Murat Cantave, Onondieu Louis, Jean Marie Salomon, Dieuple Cherubin, Jean Renel Sénatus, Andris Riché, Edwin Zenny, Youri Latortue, Jacques Sauveur Jean and Richard Lenine Hervé which stated "[...] inform that they intend to oppose and as in fact are opposed that you [Ronald Larèche] to sign with anyone, any treaty, agreement, convention, or other documents that can engage the Senate of the Republic without received from the Assembly, the mandate relating to it. Disrespect of this opposition that effect upon receipt, will cause such consequences of law."

Senator Cantave says his bloc wants the President Jocelerme Privert, leaving the National Palace on 14 June to allow the Council of Ministers, chaired by the Prime Minister, to run the country stressing that this approach is consistent with Article 149 of the Constitution. However, for other Senators, if Privert has to leave, the Prime Minister also because both are in office outside the Constitution.

A meeting was also held on the same day with the presidents of various parliamentary blocs, before a meeting with several representatives of political parties (Fanmi Lavalas Jistis, Pitit Desalin, Inite...) around the deadline of June 14. All have expressed agreement on the need to reach consensus to defuse the crisis, without proposing concrete solutions.

At the very end of the day, the Head of State met with the members of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP).
