In May, the official repatriation operations and returns qualified as "voluntary and spontaneous" of Haitian migrants living in irregular migratory situation in the Dominican Republic, continued in the Haitian-Dominican border where was registered 2,146 Haitian migrants repatriated by the Dominican Government and 4,301 returned voluntarily.

Almost all returnees Haitians were living in an irregular situation. According to their statements, they were working in the agriculture, construction, hospitality, trade and security. Some of them said they had been intercepted at the time of going about their business. Others reported being arrested at home.

These migrants repatriated by the Dominican Government were returned via in particular the official border points of Malpasse/Jimani (911), Ouanaminthe/Dajabon (993), Belladère/Elias Piña (486) and 517 on unofficial crossings points.

From January to May 2016, according to information compiled from the Support Group for Returnees and Refugees (GAAR), 30,838 people have crossed the border. Among whom were 12,430 officials repatriated 18,408 voluntary return and 515 unaccompanied minors.

From June 2015 through May 2016, according to the information released by the Directorate General of the Dominican migration combined with those of organizations of human rights, which monitor the process at the border, more than 160,000 Haitians would be returned to Haiti expelled or voluntarily. For the last 5 months the Dominican Republic indicates 17,580 deportees whose 99.5% were Haitian nationals.

Besides Haitian of nationals from 16 countries were also expelled. The second country with the largest number of deportees, after Haiti, is Cuba with 33 people, followed by India (18), and Albania (11). Germany, Brazil, the Czech Republic, China, Colombia, Ecuador, the US, Finland, France, Italy, India, Nigeria, Russia and Venezuela account between one and five deported nationals.
