Monday, July 4, on the sidelines of the commemoration of the declaration of American independence, US Ambassador Peter F. Mulrean accredited to Haiti, declared about the Haitian crisis "We are very concerned by the current situation in Haiti [...] We feel that it is time for Parliament to decide the next steps as planned in the agreement of February 5 [...] it not up to the international community to decide on a mandate of a President in Haiti. Concerning the financing of elections, the Ambassador wished to clarify "We had difficulty understanding the decision of the CEP to start from scratch the presidential election; so for us, after having contributed much in the 2015 elections, it may be difficult to continue. We contributed to the tune of $33 million in the 2015 elections and we have not planned extra money [...]" adding "Our partnership is real and our commitment is for the long-term."
