Haiti - Music : The Haitian guitarist Amos Coulanges on stage in Haiti

Recognized as one of the best guitarists of his generation, Amos Coulanges will be in Haiti during the month of July for two concerts and a workshop at the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL).

As part of the activities planned for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Monique Calixte Library, FOKAL host two concerts of Amos Coulanges Monday 18 and Monday, July 25 at 6:00 p.m. (By invitation to withdraw at the reception from Tuesday, July 12).

Meanwhile, a classical guitar workshop will be held Thursday, July 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on registration on to the 34 68 42 99)

Amos Coulanges was born in 1954 in Port-au-Prince. He devoted himself entirely to the study of music in 1976, after being acclaimed as the revelation of the Guitar Festival of Martinique and have recorded their first album entitled "Haitian Music for Guitar".

He studied in Canada (where he graduated Bachelor of Art) and in European academies Siena (Italy) with Oscar Ghiglia, and Paris with Javier Quevedo to the Ecole Normale de Musique. He also obtained a D.E.A. (Advanced Studies Diploma) in musicology in 1987 and in 1992 a Music Teacher Diploma of State, Guitar option.

He taught music while leading a remarkable career of concert performer in Paris, but also in the world (Belgium, Canada, Cuba, United States, Haiti, Jamaica, Japan, Turkey).

He won the first composition prize at the 7th Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare in 1986 and a gold medal in classical guitar at the Conservatory in Saint Germain en Laye (France) in 1989.

His works combine with happiness, elegance and refinement, the popular themes of Latin American inspiration and European art music. They place it in the gallery of the greatest composers for guitar such as F. Tarrega, H. Villa-Lobos, Léo Brouwer, M. Ponce, etc...
