Haiti - Economy : Inflation annualized reaches 13.9%

During the month of June 2016 some acceleration in prices was observed. Indeed, the level of the General Index of Consumer Prices (Base 100 in August 2004), which stood at 264.9 in May rose to 267.2 in June, showing a monthly increase of 0.9% and an annualized inflation of 15.9%, against respectively 0.7% and 15.1% in May.

Apart from the "Recreation, Entertainment, Education and Culture" which has stagnated, all consumption functions contributed to the monthly increase in the IPC such as "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (1.0%), "Clothing and fabrics, footwear"(1.1%), "Planning and Housing Maintenance"(0.8%),"Health"(1.3%) and" Other Goods and Services" (1.0%).

The positive variation of the function "Food, drinks and tobacco" comes from, among others, beef (2.3%) and pork (1.8%), of goat meat (1.4%), chicken (1.6%), edible oil (0.7%) of coconut (3.3%), bananas (2.7%), the pumpkin (2.4%), the kazoo (3.1%), eggplant (3.3%), cabbage (2.2%), onion (1.6%), carrot (2.6%), tomatoes (1.9%), tomato paste (2.0%), the yam (1.9%), the malanga (1.9%), cassava (2.0%) of the potato (2.2.0%) and potatoes (3.8%), the real tree (5.3%), orange (1.5%) of chadèque (1.5%), lemon (2.3%) and cocoa powder (2.4%).

The inflation of the "Clothing, Textiles and Shoes" function is linked mainly to the rise in prices of items such as: costume, universal jacket (1.2%), trousers for men (1.9%), dress (0.7%), Minor ( 0.9%) and tennis shoes (1.8%) and shoes (1.9%).

The upward trend observed in the "Planning, Equipment and Housing Maintenance" is consecutive to the increase in price of living room furniture (1.5%), dining room (2.8%), bed (2.6%) of the mattress (2.8%), curtains (1.5%), linen toilet (1.3%), refrigerator (3.6%) and miscellaneous services (1.6%).

Among the products that have the most influenced the inflation of the "Health" function include drugs (0.6%), glasses with corrective lenses (1.1%) and fees paid to physicians (2.4%).

Finally, the increase in function "Other Goods and Services" is mainly due to rising prices of shampoo (0.7%), toilet powder (7.2%), the body cream (1.0%), other hair care products (1.2%) and watchs (2.1%).
