Haiti - Cholera Epidemic : Center of Observation and Consultation for the orphanages

As part of its program to support Haitian children without families, and Haitian authorities responsible for child protection, the Embassy of France opened on November 28, on the site of the former Residence of France in Port-au-Prince, a Centre of Observation and Consultation (COC).

The COC's mission is to welcome and treat if necessary, all childrens of the 35 Haitians orphanages, with childrens in the adoption process by French families.

Through credits made available by the Department for International Adoption and the Crisis Center of the Quai d'Orsay, this plan has been implemented in only three days: beds, medical equipment and educational materials, among others, were purchased to make it operational. Two vehicles were rented to transport medical teams.

To make this COC more welcoming for children, a dozen young volunteers, deployed in Haiti by the agency of civic service, have also committed on this project. Plumbers, electricians, carpenters, teachers and socio-cultural, have worked so hard to build floors for the tents and a platform for health facilities, create a play area, lay out the treatment room, install a kitchen or decorate the edge of the center, bearing the likeness of cartoon characters. Many of them work there until the end of the project, such as logistics, technical managers and leaders.
