Haiti - Education : The PROMODEV encourages schools to create school gardens

On the occasion of the reopening of classes for the school year 2016-2017, the Board of Directors of the Haitian NGO "Promotion for Development" (PROMODEV) wishes a nice back to school and academic success for students and all the Staff of Schools, with a special thought for children living in rural areas and those whose parents are in trouble to prepare for this new school year.

Addressing to parents and principals, the PROMODEV "encourages academic institutions to create school gardens of medium size, which can be easily managed by students, teachers and parents, while producing many vegetables and nutritious fruits and even allow small livestock (chickens or rabbits). Production methods are simple and students and their parents can easily reuse them at home [...]"

PROMODEV also council "[...] the school officials to conduct field tours, ecotourism exploration trips to the farms or in ecological centers including the botanical garden of Les Cayes, the Animated Agricultural World Green Farm in Carrefour, so that our children can know their country well and the value of their environment."

"[...] This initiative is a citizen engagement and will be useful for the Haiti sustainable development. Because, create or improve a school garden can help school children develop both physically and intellectually, "says Bertrand Talot, Ing-Agr., Specialist in Education Relating to Environment and the Secretary General of the NGO.
