Thursday, Dr. Nabarro, United Nations special adviser on Sustainable Development that negotiates with the Haitian government and donors in the cholera file said that the UN has set a fundraising goal of $181 million over 3 years to improve the emergency response to the cholera epidemic in Haiti stressing "The most immediate need is the funding for the cholera response, because new cases have increased this year [in 2016 + 27% % or 27,742 cases from January to August 2016 and + 33% deaths (255) source OCHA] compared to the same period of 2015."

Dr. Nabarro added that at least the same amount should be mobilized to help victims of the disease and their families, adding that discussions were continuing and that Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations, should announce all the measures at the end of October.
