Haiti - Elections : The Liberal leader in Canada, asks concrete actions

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff said Wednesday that the words were not enough after the publication of election results in Haiti and the violence that followed. He asked for concrete action. "We are a country with a worldwide reputation for the monitoring of elections "and we must be present at the second round and we must now send a mission".

Like him, the NDP deputy Thomas Mulcair said he believes that the Canada can do more to assist Haitians, in ensuring that the second round takes place in a calm and respect for electoral rules. "I think it's a mistake to begin to prejudge the results. It is not our election. I think it was done the best we could under the conditions known. [...] This is not for us to begin to comment on that", he said.

Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe shares the view of government. "I think that Canada made the pressures necessary to say that it is really necessary that the elections are held correctly", he said.

The "worldwide reputation for the monitoring of elections" in Canada, has lost its prestige during these first results. Before talking about improving the second round, and send a new mission of "experts...", should already be able to ensure that the first round was held following the rules.
