Haiti - France : François Hollande statement

Following the passage of Hurricane Matthew on Haiti, the President of the French Republic François Hollande declared Friday :

"The Matthew hurricane hit Haiti very hard on 4 and 5 October. It made many victims and enormous material damage.

The President of the Republic expresses its sympathy and support to the Haitian people, already as proven in recent years.

The Head of State wished that France is mobilizing all available resources to implement very quickly, in coordination with our European partners and the international community for emergency assistance.

As early as 5 October, at the request of the Haitian authorities, a Falcon 50 of Armed Forces in Martinique has conducted reconnaissance flights to assess the damage caused by the weather, including the necessary infrastructure for the delivery of humanitarian aid to victims.

The most urgent need now is to provide drinking water to the population and prevent health risks. A plane will be chartered to transport 60 military of the civil security, and 32 tons of equipment, including two water purification plant, medical kits, humanitarian first-aid equipment. In addition, two French senior officers firefighters travel today for Port-au-Prince to support the Haitian authorities."
