Haiti - FLASH : Ecuador proposes the creation of a fund to help Haiti

Saturday at the plenary session of XXV Latin American Summit of Heads of State and Government in Cartagena, Colombia, the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, proposed to create a fund to help Haiti to deal with the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Matthew, estimated at $1.89 billion https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19081-haiti-flash-nearly-$2-billion-in-damages-and-economic-loss.html

He explained that this fund could be managed by the General Secretariat (SEGIB) and that each country could contribute to the fund by providing a ten-thousandth of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) "Based on our recent experience, we know that the best way to assist, in in cash and the recipient country decides where and how the money is invested."

22 countries of the Ibero-American community, including heads of State or of Government, vice presidents, foreign ministers and deputy ministers of Foreign Affairs participated in the Summit.

Recall that countries are members including in particular the USA and Canada.
