Haiti - FLASH : Warning to Canadians

The Government of Canada inform all Canadians in Haiti or who wish to travel to this destination that "The political situation in Haiti is fragile and unpredictable, and tensions continue to intensify in the period surrounding the ongoing electoral process. The first round of presidential elections has been scheduled for November 20, 2016. A runoff election is scheduled for January 29, 2017.

Demonstrations, political rallies and roadblocks occur regularly and have sometimes led to incidents of violence, particularly in Port-au-Prince and on main highways such as Route Nationale 2 in the vicinity of Petit-Goâve (Ouest Department).

Movement may be restricted and local transportation services may be disrupted. Remain vigilant at all times and avoid large crowds and demonstrations as they may turn violent with little to no warning."
