Friday, he Minister of Education, Jean Beauvois Dorsonne, proceded to the installation of Rector of the new Public University of Bas-Artibonite in St-Marc (UPBAS), created by ministerial circular, dated 3rd November 2016, Professor Auguste D'Méza and to the launching of the activities of this entity 2nd University in the Artibonite and the 11th Public University in Region (UPR) created by the Ministry.

This university will initially offer 4 courses of study: Education Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Law. The University will start with about 200 students out of a total of 600 already enrolled.

For Minister Dorsonne (native of the region) "UPBAS must meet the challenges of this geographical space full of economic potential. It is the expression of a strong desire on the part of the competent authorities to set up a local university after a diagnosis of the situation in the subregion."

According to the Minister, this is a great moment for all artibonitians, especially those living in the communes of Saint-Marc, La Chapelle, Verrettes, Liancourt, Desdunes, Estere etc... A great opportunity for young people living in the neighboring communal sections like Delugé, Bois-Neuf, Goyavier, La Louere, Bocozelle, Charrette…

For his part, Rector Auguste D'Méza affirmed his firm determination to make this university a reference in the field of higher education with the collaboration of all the actors of the city and friends of the Diaspora who have already demonstrated the desire to give it their support.
