7 detainees escaped from the Gonaïves Prison on the Place d'Arme on the night from 19 to 20 December after cutting the bars of their cells and crossing an enclosure wall more than 6 m high using a rope made of sheets.

Around 4:00 am the security forces managed to capture one of the escapees, while the others on the run, are actively sought.

Me Maryse Jonas, the Government Commissioner near the Public Prosecutor's Office, pointed to the lack of training of the guards and an outdated prison with inappropriate buildings that do not meet international standards.

For security reasons she says she does not want to reveal the names of the escapees, nor the reason for their arrest or convictions.

An escape that arouses great concern in the population to 4 days of Christmas...
