Haiti - Politics : The ONI formally denies the rumor...

The National Office of Identification (ONI) formally denies the rumor circulating, suggesting that the institution has released a report, in which it says it can not manage to recover 2.4 million national ID cards that were manufactured between 2011 and 2016.

The ONI wishes to state that it has not published any report or document, which contains statistics or such information. It stresses that the institution knows its responsibilities and that it never publishes statistics that do not reflect the reality of the work it carries out.

In addition, the ONI reminds all citizens that it has nothing to do with the organization of the elections and shares only with the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), the list of citizens registered in its database.

Wilson Fièvre, Director General of ONI "thanks the population for their understanding and takes the opportunity to wish a Happy New Year 2017."
