Thursday afternoon, the police (Office for the Fight against Drug Trafficking (BLTS)) has arrested the senator-elect of Grand'Anse Guy Philippe in Pétion-ville after leaving the premises of Radio Scoop FM, after his intervention on the show "Haïti Débat" by Gary Pierre Paul Charles. Guy Philippe had obtained his certificate at the premises of the Provisional Electoral Council earlier in the day. The BLTS acted under instructions from the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ).

Senator Joseph Lambert confirmed the information.

The Senator is also under a mandate from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for "Conspiracy to Import Cocaine, Title 21, United States Code, Section 963; Conspiracy to Launder Monetary Instruments, Title 18, United States Code, Section 1956; and Engaging in Monetary Transactions in Property Derived from Specified Unlawful Activity, Title 18, United States Code, Section 1957."

Recall that Guy Philippe is a former leader of an armed rebellion that led to the overthrow of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in February 2004.

For the moment, the charges against Guy Philippe are still unknown.
