Haiti - Justice : Land conflict, tension escalates to Vivy Mitchel

Camille Junior Edouard, the Minister of Justice and Public Security expressed in a note his most "serious concerns" in relation to a land conflict, prevailing for some time in the locality of Vivy Mitchel, confronting the families Benoit and Lorenceau. A conflict that resulted in several unfortunate incidents, such as the invasion of private lands by ill-intentioned individuals, the slaughter of animals that were there and threats against local residents.

The Minister considers these acts "unacceptable and incompatible with the establishment of the rule of law and requires an expeditious response from the competent authorities [...] and asks the Government Commissioner of the jurisdiction of Port-au-Prince to ensure promptly that the Substitutes, Justices of the Peace and the police of that jurisdiction, inscribe all their actions within the framework of the law and at the same time work for the restoration of the social order and public peace"...
