The President of the Republic, Jovenel Moïse, welcomes the election on Sunday 12 February, by an absolute majority in the first round of the ballot, of Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier as President of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG).

"On behalf of the Government and the people of Haiti, the Haitian Head of State conveys his sincere words of congratulation and continued success to the twelfth President of the Federal Republic who will officially succeed Mr Joachim Gauck on 18 March.

The President of the Republic hopes the bilateral relations between Haiti and Germany would be strengthened under the presidency of the new Head of State of the FRG, in the interests of both countries."
