Haiti - Social : Haiti wants to draw inspiration from the Dominican experience

Tuesday, a Haitian government delegation led by Max Rudolph Saint Albin, Advisor to President Jovenel Moïse and composed of Esther Antoine, Senator Carl Murat Cantave, Jean Rémy David, Ely Thélo, Daniel Altiné, Anne Betsy Berrounet, Idalbert Pierre-Jean and Yves Rody Jean, traveled to the Dominican Republic to inquire about the operation of the Center for Comprehensive Care for Persons with Disabilities (Centro de Atención Integral para la Discapacidad - CAID) and to explore the possibilities of creating a similar body in Haiti.

The First Lady Candida Montilla de Medina, who heads CAID, personally welcomed the Haitian delegation. Martha Rodriguez Baez, Technical Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady led the meeting between CAID leaders and members of the Haitian delegation.

Max Rudolph Saint Albin, welcomed the CAID initiative and expressed his admiration for the work of the First Lady and praised the modern facilities and services offered by the CAID centers. He expressed interest in replicating in Haiti the experience of the Dominican Republic in the comprehensive care of children with disabilities stressing "Human resources are available to run such a Center in Haiti. We certainly need more continuing education to succeed, but we've come to learn. This can be a form of cooperation between the two countries and it is our goal to work together."

Before the visit of the Center, the Haitian delegation attended the screening of a documentary detailing the processes of construction and operation of the CAID.
