Haiti - Environment : Validation of the National Policy on Climate Change

Friday, the Ministry of the Environment, in collaboration with the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), organized a workshop on the exchange and validation of the national climate change policy.

"Providing the country with a national policy able to serve as a guide for decision-makers is the main objective," explained the Minister resigning Simon Dieuseul Desras

The document "From Mountain to Sea" takes into account the problems of vulnerability, resilience and deforestation faced by the country, which currently has little more than 2% of vegetation cover, indicatd Minister Desras who stressed that the water sector remained the most worrying.

Climate change is an unprecedented environmental and socio-economic challenge. Based on all these findings, solutions were proposed through this document which was the subject of discussion in this workshop.

Ranked 3rd among the 10 countries most affected by extreme weather events, Haiti needs a national policy on climate change, an important step in the implementation of the Paris Agreement (COP 21) and a paradigm shift in the way it governs.
