Haiti - Economy : Monthly inflation still rising (February)

During the month of February 2017, the level of the General Index of Consumer Prices (base 100 in August 2004) rose to 294.7 against 291.6 in January 2017, with monthly inflation up + 1.1% against + 0.9% for the month of January and year-on-year inflation of 13.9%.

The monthly increase in inflation is mainly due to the behavior of consumption functions: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 1.2%), "Clothing and fabrics, footwear" (+ 1.2%), (+ 1.1%), "Health Care" (+ 1.0%) and "Other goods and services" (+ 1.6%).

The positive change in the food, beverages and tobacco index, which accounts for more than 50% of the household budget, comes among others of the rise of : millet (+3.6%), grain maize (+1.5%), (1.5%), beef (+ 1.1%), pork (+ 0.9%) and cabri (+ 0.8%), chicken (+2.7%), cheese , Table margarine (+ 1.2%), kitchen margarine (+2.3%), avocado (+1.3%), banana (+1.7%), giraumon (+1.5%), Eggplant (+1.6%), cabbage (+1.5%), onion (+1.0%), carrot (+ 1.7%), tomato (+1.1%), yam (+1.3%), malanga (+1.8%), cassava (+ 1.2%), Of the real tree (+1.9%), orange (+2.6%), chadka (+2.3%), papaya (+1.0%) and lemon (+3.8%).

The increase in the "clothing, textile and footwear" index is particularly linked to clothing prices, universal jacket (+2.9%), trousers for men (+1.0%), dress (+2.8%), T (+1.6%), shoes and tennis (+2.4%) and sandals (+1.0%).

The increase in the "Housing, Energy and Water" index is mainly due to the rise in housing rent (+0.3%), propane gas (+8.7%) and charcoal (+4.6%).

The upward trend observed in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance of Housing" index follows the increase in prices: living room furniture (+ 1.5%), dining room (+ 2.6% Bed linen (+1.1%), curtains (+0.9%), tablecloths (+4.1%), refrigerators (+1.9%) %) And the wages of domestic staff (+ 0.9%).

The increase in the "Health" index is particularly linked to the rise in prices: glasses with corrective lenses (+3.1%), fees paid to physicians (+0.6%) and hospitalization costs (+3.7% ).
