President Jovenel Moïse, learned with great sadness the news of the catastrophe provoked by the violent rains and the immense mudslide that devastated the city of Mocoa in Colombia on the night from Friday 30 March to Saturday 1 April. The results of this tragedy amount to date, to 254 dead, more than 200 missing and several hundred wounded.

"In this challenging circumstance, President Moïse wishes to reassure the families of the victims and the people affected by this unprecedented tragedy, of the solidarity of the Haitian people and address them, on behalf of the latter, its compassion and deepest condolences.

The Head of State extends the sympathies of the Haitian people to the populations of the Andean region of northwestern Latin America, severely affected for several weeks by heavy rain, due to the El Niño climatic phenomenon, causing floodingparticularly in Peru, where 101 deaths and more than 900,000 affected have been reported so far, as well as in Ecuador, which deplores 21 deaths and 1,280 affected."
