Haiti - Politics : Solidarity mission in the South of PAP City Council

Following a unanimous decision by the Extraordinary Council, the Deputy Mayor of Port-au-Prince, Kettyna Bellabe went to the Department of Grand'Anse with other mayors, members of the Association of Mayors of the West (AMO), as part of a solidarity visit to their counterparts from the Association of Mayors of Grande-Anse (AMAGA).

This visit provided an opportunity for the West Mayors' delegation to make a general assessment of the situation in Grande-Anse and the needs of the various town halls and the population of the department after the passage of hurricane Matthew in October 2016.

Kettyna Bellab on behalf of the Municipal Administration of Port-au-Prince was able to provide assistance to the people who still have difficulty recovering from the devastating consequences of this hurricane. The AMO was able to collect a large number of food products and hygiene kits that were distributed to several needy families.

Deputy Mayor Bellab took the opportunity to invite all the organized groups of society, from here and elsewhere, to reflect on the fate of our brothers and sisters in Grande-Anse and the Greater South in general, which more than 6 months after Matthew face enormous difficulties in health and with plantations and crops destroyed. She stressed the urgent need for concerted actions in Grande-Anse to face the famine threatening a large part of the population.
