Since the closure of the market binational of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the town of Anse-à-Pitre, in the south-east of the country is facing to serious economic difficulties. Women's associations and small merchants do not fail to denounce the situation of this commune. These last call for immediate action near the Haitian authorities in order to find an urgent solution to this problem.

Since the binational market of Anse-à-Pitre, Pedernales has been put "out of service" by the Dominican authorities in the framework of preventive measures against the cholera outbreak on its territory "this decision was strongly penalized the functioning of economic activities in this border region" said Crista Jeudy, the representative of the Merchants Association of Anse-à-Pitre.

A few meters from the binational market, built entirely on the Dominican territory, twenty hovels are installed haphazardly represent the space of exchange of the Anse-à-Pitois. This space dusty poorly sanitized, should no longer be used by small merchants, deplores Rosetta Santana, president of "Association Fanm Vanyan Anse-à-Pitre" which calls on Haitian authorities to assume their responsibility in this matter.

With the current restrictions, the attendance of the bi-national market is almost null and smaller merchants complain they can not sell their products. Most acknowledge that they have taken loans to run their business and not being able to repay them for lack of sufficient business.
