Towards the elections of the Councils of the communities

Léopold Berlanger, President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), announced that following several working sessions between the government and the Electoral Council, arrangements had been made to organize the indirect elections of the Councils of Communities, provided by the Constitution of 1987 but never organized by the previous Governments. The details of the budget are not yet known... The regulations governing the organization of these elections have already been sent to the Executive and the final results of the local elections for publication in the official newspaper "Le Moniteur".

Modernization of the prison system

On Tuesday, on the initiative of the Office for the Protection of the Citizen (OPC), a Forum on Preliminary Draft Law on Detention was organized in Petion-Ville, with the participation of the experts of the United Nations United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Directorate of Penitentiary Administration (DAP). At this Forum, the OPC presented a draft bill on detention with a view to modernizing the prison system.

The Saint Vincent school, a reference

A team from the Office of the Secretary of State (Gerald Oriol Jr.) for the Integration of People with Disabilities (BSEIP) visited the St Vincent School for Handicapped Children. The St Vincent Center has been a reference institution in Haiti for teaching and mentoring disabled children for several decades. The Center receives deaf, blind and disabled children. Several generations have been trained at this institution and some of these students have become professors, sign language interpreters, singers and musicians among others...
