Haiti - Diaspora : The Haitian Community Celebrates the Flag in Suriname

The Consulate General of the Republic of Haiti in Suriname once again surpassed itself in the celebration of the 214th anniversary of the creation of our Flag which it organized for the fourth consecutive year in the city of Wanica where an important part of the local Haitian community resides.

More impressive than last year, this traditional event of the Consulate has turned into a true cultural and family festivity with, not only our young artists being more than excited to exhibit their multiple talents (dances, singing, Poems, jokes, DJs...), but also with our brass band which had our Religious Authorities and old Compatriots especially delighted, not to forget of course, our new group Rara Lakay 509 which dazzled a visibly nostalgic audience.

As for the young children, the Consulate has made sure they had their own special fun this year with the introduction of a bounce house and a Surinamese artist who drew and reproduced our Flag on their faces with glitters.

On the other hand, the fair introduced last year by the Consulate also had a greater success with many more members of the Haitian Community displaying handicrafts, delicacies prepared from family recipes and, for the first time, high-quality shoes, sandals and purses ... while Surinamese companies interested in offering services and/or recruiting in the Community once again responded positively to the Consulate’s invitation.
