Haiti - Technology : Towards an airwaves «war» with DR ?

Given of the Haitian interference (radio, TV and telephone) found along the border area, in the Dominican frequency spectrum, the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (INDOTEL) and the National Department of Investigation (DNI) announced the establishment of a "technical committee", which will coordinate joint actions for the protection of the Dominican hertzian sovereignty.

Jose Del Castillo Saviñón, the President of INDOTEL recalled that there is an agreement between the regulator INDOTEL and the National Telecommunications Council (CONATEL) dating back to 2007. He said that the Dominican Government had made contact with the Haitian authorities to start looking for solutions. He also believes that telephone interference on the Dominican territory is intentional, explaining that Haitian companies can easily redirect their antennas and control these interferences, but that they do not want to do so.

He said that INDOTEL had made other arrangements, without specifying which ones and met with other government agencies to find technical means to solve, even partially, the penetration of Haitian waves "that violates the sovereignty of the country".

For his part, the Dominican Senator Adriano Sanchez Roa (PLD, Party of the ruling majority), speaks at the radio level, about the dangers of imposing a foreign culture on the Dominican youth along the border. He asserts that the Haitian interference instead of lowering, on the contrary, has increased. Senator Roa urged the Dominican Government to act with determination, recalling that the Dominican radio-electric space is sovereign and part of the integrity of the national territory.
