Haiti - FLASH : Moïse sets daily minimum wage at 350 Gdes

Wednesday, according to our information, President Moïse signed the decree fixing the daily minimum wage among others in the sector of subcontracting to 350 Gourdes, 15 Gourdes more than the disputed and rejected proposal of the Superior Council of Wages (CSS) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21461-haiti-flash-the-css-proposes-a-daily-minimum-wage-of-335-gourdes.html This decision was taken after exchanges with employers and trade unions https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21586-haiti-politics-minimum-wage-moise-meets-with-trade-unions.html This decree was transmitted to the official newspaper "Le Moniteur" for publication.

This is a net increase in this sector of 50 Gourdes on the previous salary of 300 Gourdes, just over 16.5%, slightly higher than the inflation rates that the country knows (15.8% last June https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21608-haiti-economy-inflation-at-the-threshold-of-16.html )

The Head of State urged the workers not to be influenced by those who seek to lose jobs in Haiti.

For the National Coordination of Haitian Workers (CENOHA), this is a new provocation and confirms a week of mobilization from 31 July to Saturday 5 August 2017 claiming "The 800 gourdes are not negotiable".

The first reactions of the other trade unions seem to confirm the rejection of this last proposal of the Executive and suggest a resumption of mobilization and protest movements in the next few days to obtain satisfaction of their demands.
