Lieutenant-General Maximo William Muñoz Delgado, head of the DGM, said that the voluntary return of this group of 74 Haitian adults and 53 minors had been carried out in coordination with the International Organization of Migration (IOM) and that the Haitians had been received at the Haitian border by Haitian migration officials. He stressed that the Haitian nationals were satisfied with the attention and assistance they had received from the Dominican authorities.

Note that according to data from the DMG, more than 50% of Haitians who voluntarily return to Haiti are women, who in the Dominican Republic were mostly engaged as domestic staff.

Delgado, who recalled that this is the third group of voluntary return in recent weeks, pointed out that the number of Haitians using the free voluntary return program has increased a lot. He also stated that he had given specific instructions to the inspectors of the DGM so that attention could be given not only to illegal Haitians but also to foreigners of other nationalities who are living illegally in Dominican territory.
