Haiti - Les Cayes : Laying the foundation stone of the largest Caribbean vocational training center

Saturday in Dexia, following the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Brazil on strengthening technical cooperation in the field of vocational training in November 2016 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19149-haiti-brazil-agreement-on-the-strengthening-of-vocational-training.html , President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by his wife and Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant, proceeded to the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the Center of vocational and technical training of Les Cayes (CFPTC).

This Center named provisionally "Brasilia-Tech", entirely financed by Brazil to the tune of $ 17 million, which will be built on a 15-hectare site, was announced in August 2016 and presented as the largest Caribbean Community Training Center https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-18268-icihaiti-brazil-construction-of-the-greatest-training-center-of-the-caricom.html . It will propose to the students 5 courses: textile, civil construction, mechanics, electro-mechanics, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and a choice of 30 trades. The professional competencies will be validated by 4 levels of certification : "Attestation d'Aptitude Professionnelle" (AAP) ; "Certificat d'Aptitude Professionnelle" (CAP) ; "Brevet d'Aptitude Professionnelle" (BAP) and "Diplôme de Technicien cadre" (DT/DTS).

In the presence, among others of Mayor of Les Cayes, Gabriel Fortuné, Émilie Jessy C. Ménos, Minister of Tourism, Southern Parliamentarians, Maguy Durcé, Director General of the National Institute for Vocational Training (INFP) and the Brazilian Ambassador to Port-au-Prince Fernando Vidal, the Head of State congratulated the INFP authorities for making possible this project which will offer the possibility to more than 3,000 young people to study and become professionals.

Maguy Durcé, praised the importance of such a Center for the development of young people in the South Department and welcomed the support of the partners and promised her total dedication to the full effectiveness of the CFPTC.

Brazilian Ambassador Fernando Vidal expressed his pride as well as that of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency for collaborating in the realization of this project. He also congratulated the Head of State for the creation of the Commission for Innovation and Socio-professional Integration of Youth. The Ambassador recalled the important potential of young people in Haiti and promised the expertise of Brazil within the framework of this Center and the continuation of its cooperation with Haiti.

This project, comprising three components: construction, equipment, specialized technical training, will be carried out over a period of 3 to 5 years.
