Haiti - Politics : Strengthening of the public security for Back-to-School

Thursday, Léon Ronsard St-Cyr, Secretary of State for Public Security, accompanied by Divisional Inspector Jimmy François, Head of EDUPOL (a specialized unit of the Haitian National Police, from the Community Police), and Commissioner Carmel Florent, Head of the Central Police Department of the Road Police (DCPR), presented of security measures adopted for the start of the school year scheduled for 4 September.

In order to counteract acts of banditry in the metropolitan area, measures to control motorcycles in school areas and the regularization of motorcycle taxis will be taken. "A safety plan for the beginning of the school year is already adopted to guarantee a climate of trust to parents," confirmed the Secretary of State for Public Security.

Inspector Divisional Jimmy François of EDUPOL clarified the role of this unit, which is to watch over the behavior of schoolchildren, recalling "There must be no pupils in public places during school hours, Edupol will take dispositions to bring order". He also reminded club and discotheque managers to take responsibility regarding school childrens, and that Edupol will be vigilant and uncompromising in combating, among other things, alcohol consumption among young students. Inspector Divisionnaire François invites the public to collaborate by calling 4041 2323, to report any doubtful or suspicious behavior of a school children in any other space than in schools, during school hours.

In his speech, Commissioner Carmel Florent, reassured parents that they will be able to take their children to school on Monday 4 September in peace and quiet, nderlining that "All agents of the Central Police Department are already mobilized to facilitate traffic".
