Haiti - Economy : PM opens the Forum on Competitiveness and Investment

Wednesday, 20 September, in the presence of numerous members of the private business sector, representatives of public and private institutions and civil society, Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant launched the Forum on Competitiveness and Investment (FCI) held at the Convention Center of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti on 20, 21 and 22 September.

In his speech, the Head of Government called on all actors to contribute, through concrete commitments, to the socio-economic development of Haiti. Of commitments that sshould help to improve, including the business environment and ensure the stability needed to attract new investment to the country.

He also highlighted the problems affecting the Haitian business system claiming to be ready to collaborate with all actors to support efforts to revive the economy once and for all. He expressed his determination to establish a public-private dialogue, an inescapable process with a view to bringing effective and concerted solutions to the problems of the population.

"A frank and sincere collaboration to bring more service to the population, while boosting growth by boosting the key sectors of the economy such as agriculture, the construction industry," were among the other priorities addressed by Prime Minister Lafontant who also referred to laws submitted to Parliament to improve the legal framework for business and to make the Haitian economy more attractive and competitive.

Tessa Jacques, the Director General of the Center for Investment Facilitation (CFI), stressed the objectives set in this activity, which is expected to play a fundamental role in the revitalization and competitiveness of the Haitian economy.

It will be, for the players, initially, to contribute to the development of a strategy of enterprise development.

Secondly, the reflections produced by the various participants and other stakeholders at the FCI should help to put in place an action plan on the development of competitiveness and a secretariat to facilitate the implementation of this plan.
