"Deeply affected by the unfortunate incident of 20 September 2017 at the Departmental Education Department of the Center where a man was killed following a skirmish between demonstrators and a security guard assigned to the DDE-Center, who reportedly fired, mortally wounding one of the demonstrators; the Ministry of National Education deplores and condemns this incident.

The Ministry expresses its sincere sympathies to the victim's family and to his relatives and invites the Hinche population to calm and respect the school buildings and the administrative offices in order to preserve the educational achievements and enable students to continue their learning in serenity while respecting the right of everyone to express its claims.

Judicial authorities were seized of the matter. An inquiry will determine the exact circumstances of the man's death."
