Haiti - Justice : New 5-day National Magistrates' Strike

Following the failure to sign a memorandum of understanding on Thursday, October 5 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22317-haiti-news-zapping.html , between Heidi Fortune, the Minister of Justice, Jude Alix Patrice Solomon, the Minister of Economy and Me. Jules Cantave, President of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), due to the unjustified absence of the Minister Solomon https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22336-haiti-news-zapping.html , Me Wando Saint-Villier, President of the Professional Association of Magistrates (APM), asks all magistrates of the 18 jurisdictions of the country, whatever their place of affection, to observe a work stoppage from Monday 9 to Friday, October 13, 2017, to protest against the Minister of Solomon's failure to respect the Judiciary.

Me Wando Saint-Villier, deplored the behavior of the Minister "This protocol should be signed by the parties concerned, but unfortunately Minister Solomon has done wrong, without giving any explanation of the reasons for his absence" recalling that the deadline to find a protocol around the claims was on October 6th.

The Magistrates call for better working conditions, risk premiums for judges responsible for sensitive cases, social benefits for judges, clerks, court clerks and bailiffs in the various jurisdictions of the country, and the appointment of new judges, more than 200 in the Great North and the South, 144 in the Courts of First Instance (TPI) and a dozen judges at the Court of Appeal whose files have been held at the National Palace since last April....
