Following the call for projects of the French Embassy in Port-au-Prince to finance the development of economic and local initiatives in rural areas in the departments affected by Hurricane Matthew (Nippes, South and Grand'Anse) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21721-haiti-notice-call-for-rural-development-projects-south-of-haiti.html 12 civil society organizations (CSOs) were selected by the selection committee on 6 October. This call focused on the following themes:

- Plant production / development of arboriculture

- Seed production

- Breeding

- Processing of agricultural products

- Fisheries and Aquaculture

It aimed to promote economic activities in rural areas in the Nippes, South and Grand'Anse regions; encourage local initiatives by rural development actors in the South; contribute to the leverage effects of the Post-Matthew actions developed by development partners and to strengthen the internal and economic dynamics within the local associations operating in the southern territories and accompany local authorities in their role of coordinating economic development operations on their territory.
