Haiti - Politic : Senator Youri Latortue in Taiwan

Taiwan (Republic of China) will continue to provide technical assistance to Haiti and will help promote Taiwanese investment in the country, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Su Jia-chyuan said Tuesday during a meeting with a Haitian delegation in Taipei.

"Taiwan will continue to help Haiti improve its agricultural output," Su told Haiti's senate president Youri Latortue, who arrived in Taiwan Tuesday with an eight-member delegation on a 5-day visit.

He also stressed that the Taiwanese Government will actively help increase investment in Haiti, noting that Rachel Coupaud, Haiti's ambassador to Taiwan, is urging small businesses in Taiwan to move to Haiti, adding that "Taiwan's agricultural mission in Haiti will continue to offer technical assistance to help local farmers raise agricultural output in the country's Artibonite."

Senator Latortue expressed appreciation for Taiwan's long-term support and contributions to the country's agricultural development, noting that the two countries share many similarities in terms of geography and history.

Let's recall that Taiwan and Haiti have maintained friendly relations for the past 60 years, during which time they have collaborated in programs in the areas of infrastructure, agriculture, public health and vocational training.
