iciHaiti - Health : Donation from CRH of materials and sanitary equipment to the Ministry of Health

As part of the Community Health Strengthening Program, the National Society of the Haitian Red Cross (CRH) and its partner the American Red Cross carried out the donation ceremony of 45 sanitary materials and equipment to the Ministry of Public Health worth nearly 25,000 US dollars.

The Community Health Strengthening Program supports the improvement and expansion of community-based health services in three large underserved areas of the West Department : Canaan (Canaan, St. Christophe, Jérusalem, Onaville / Corail), Carrefour-Feuilles and the La Gonâve island.

Since the beginning of its implementation, 173 vaccination sessions have been conducted in the communities and more than 250 women have been enrolled in the family program where they received pills or injections while more than 40,000 condoms were distributed.

To initiate change in sustainable behavior, 23 mother clubs have been established and are operational in the different neighborhoods of Canaan. In these clubs, attended by more than 600 women, 354 educational sessions were held on family planning, breastfeeding, maternal and child health and nutrition.

156 Haitian Red Cross volunteers from Canaan communities, accompanied by community health professionals from the Program and multi-service community health workers from the Ministry were deployed to their communities. From July 2016 to date, more than 3,000 home visits have been completed as part of this deployment. They proceeded to more than 1500 references either for the vaccination or the Consultation pre or post natal, or for diseases or planning.
