Haiti - Health : Towards a strengthening of the response in reproductive health

Thirty humanitarian actors intervening in the health departments of North and North-East participates in Cap-Haitien, until 27 November to a training on the Minimum Emergency Device (DMU) in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and medical care of rape.

Organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in partnership with the Center for Health Development (CDS) and the Ministry of Public Health, this training aims to strengthen the capacity of health actors. The capacity of health institutions is vital and contributes to efforts to improve the quality of services provided to people affected by disaster situations," said Sindie Frédéric, UNFPA-Haiti's VBG / Gender Coordinator.

Also taking part in this training, alongside the heads of health institutions, the departmental coordinators of the Ministry for the Status of Women (MCFDF) as well as agents of the National Police of Haiti (PNH) in the departments of North and North-East.

Jean Philona, the Departmental Coordinator of the MCFDF for the Department of the North, emphasized "the importance of this training in the care of survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) and those requiring care during periods emergency."

Recall that previous SRH interventions have enabled thousands of women and girls of childbearing age, pregnant women, women and girls exposed to sexual violence to access sexual and reproductive health services. These interventions also made it possible to prevent gender-based violence.

This training is part of efforts to close the remaining gaps in knowledge of SSR related to the principles and guidelines, including prevention and response to GBV issues, as well as coordination mechanisms for effectiveness interventions in humanitarian crisis (acute and chronic).
