Haiti - Economy : Fruitful meeting between Moïse and the European Investment Bank

Wednesday in Brussels (Belgium), as part of his European tour, President Jovenel Moïse met with Pim van Ballekom, Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB).

During the exchanges that took place in a cordial atmosphere, Moïse resented the financing needs of Haiti in priority areas such as: Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Agro-industry, the provision of electricity based on renewable sources (wind, solar, biomass, hydro) and the construction of bridges in various parts of the country.

In the priority sectors: cereals, especially rice, poultry and tuber processing Vice-President Ballekom has requested that the Haitian Government make a formal request to the EIB shortly.

Moreover, Ballekom has confirmed that the European Bank is ready to finance Haitian SMEs in the priority areas, up to 150 million Euros in the long term.

According to President Moïse's wish, the two sides agreed on the principle of the direct execution mechanism by the Government of Haiti, through the State-run Independent Development Fund (IDF), which operates under the supervision of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH)

Recall that this meeting is a continuation of the exploratory visit to Haiti last May of Pim van Ballekom https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21025-haiti-europe-european-investment-bank-on-exploratory-visit-to-the-country.html who had already shown an openness to project financing https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21078-haiti-economy-the-eib-may-provide-loans-for-new-projects.html
