Marie Laurence Jocelyn Lasègue, the Minister of Culture has confirmed Tuesday that the Government will make available of the Carnival 2011 an amount of about $1 million [40.000 million gourds] for the realization of this cultural event. Recalling that this year the total budget estimated to 90,000 million Gourdes (Gdes) is lower than in 2010 (110 million Gdes) because of the challenges faced by the government since the earthquake of January 2010. The Minister said that this budget will be shared between the cities that traditionally realizes a carnival without being more specific. The remaining of the funding will be provided by sponsors.

The Carnival will be held this year around of 3 themes. March 6 "celebrate life" (célébrons la vie), March 7 "ay of resilience of the citizen" (jour de résilience du citoyen) and March 8 International Women's Day "will be devoted to women". The Minister has recommended to the artists not to use women's bodies in their music video clip and promotions, but rather to produce quality texts.

To reassure those who worry about the cholera epidemic, she said that her department is working with the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) to avoid an increase in cholera cases after the Carnival. She also said, that measures will be taken to limit the noise level of carnival floats to avoid risk of collapse of buildings weakened by the quake.
