Haiti - USA : Important Reforestation Project in the North and Northeast Departments

On Thursday, January 11, 2018 in Lakou Breda in Cap-Haïtien in the presence of several senior US and Haitian government officials, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will launch a major reforestation project in the North and Northeast Departments. The ceremony will be followed by a reforestation session and an exhibition with local organizations.

This five-year project, which addresses the important need for the conservation and restoration of Haiti's forests, will wlow to plant more than 5 million trees, put 15,000 hectares of land under agroforestry management, restore more 800 hectares of forest and contribute to reduce by 80,000 tons, the production of charcoal in five priority watersheds of the departments of North and North-East.

The US Government Project, an investment of more than 40 million dollars, will be carried out in collaboration with local communities, government actors and other stakeholders to establish ownership of natural resource management and increase Haiti's capacity for environmental management.
